About The Foundation
The J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Foundation for American Art was created to increase the public’s awareness on the quality of nineteenth-and twentieth-century American art. The foundation will present scholarly research, publications, and academic programs, and lend paintings from the J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Collection and the foundation collection to museum exhibitions.
Our Mission
The foundation's mission is to promote the education and awareness of American art, focusing on the events and circumstances of each historical time period. The foundation will educate the public about the significant role American art has played in reflecting and shaping American history, both through the perspectives of individual artists and artisans (including, but not limited to, frame makers) and through the larger cultural and political context in which they created their works. Moreover, through its thoughtful curation of American art from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the foundation will celebrate the artistry of craftsmanship and the unique history of the United States and its people. The foundation will accomplish its mission through two types of programming: (1) the creation, curation, and lending of its physical collection to museums for cataloged exhibitions and (2) the provision of online educational content.
Our Approach
Our journey involves two key initiatives:
- Curating a Dynamic Collection: We meticulously assemble and manage a collection of American art from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This collection is not static. Our approach includes both acquiring additional exceptional art and facilitating artwork loans to cataloged museum exhibitions.
- Online Educational Content: Recognizing the power of digital platforms, we extend our educational reach through online content. This allows us to share insights, stories, and the significance of American art.

Why Physical Exhibitions Matter
In an age dominated by digital media, we champion the irreplaceable experience of physical museum art exhibitions. Digital reproductions, while useful, cannot capture the nuances of scale, color, texture, and framing that are integral to the original artworks. Museum exhibitions offer a communal immersive experience, allowing attendees to fully absorb the essence of these masterpieces.
Bridging Gaps in Art Accessibility
We recognize that museums may be required to borrow artworks for their exhibitions to showcase the full spectrum of significant American artists and historical periods. By lending our collection to museum exhibitions, we bring these pivotal works to diverse audiences, including those in regions with limited access to quality American art. Our collections are more than just displays; they are gateways to understanding and appreciating the rich heritage of American achievement.
Join us in this journey of discovery and appreciation, as we delve into the stories, craftsmanship, and historical significance of American art.

A Collector’s Journey
The catalogue, A Collector’s Journey, is designed specifically for museum directors and curators, by focusing solely on the appearance, provenance, and exhibition history of each painting. The collections are dynamic and will continue to expand as additional exceptional and historically important paintings are acquired.
The Forward "American Gems: Exceptional Paintings from the Hudson River to Early Modern" written by John Wilmerding, Professor Emeritus, Princeton University discusses each painting and its significance.
